    Will the z-liner do for 0C /30F

    The title says it all:
Will the Z-linder do for 0C or do I need to go to the underquilt idea?
I like the thought of having a nicely fitting insulation I can leave on all the time- simple no fuss solution, no extra mucking around. But is it warm enough? Heard something about cold spots on the seams.
0C / 30F will be the coldest I will encounter around here.

Also: How heavy is the z-liner ( size 200)?
    Thanks

Cold spots on the seams for down-filled pillows that should have been a little wider than they were custom made. You've noticed that the Clarks pouches are all darted to enclose extra volume.

For proof of concept, I've just stepped out and stuffed a full inexpensive standard sized poly-filled pillow and a pair of standard sized pillow cases each filled with the stuff of 1/2 of the cheapie.

Finding: Yes, there is more loft in the middle than there is at the seam, just as there is more loft in a quilt between the baffles than at the baffles. But, once I am in the hammock the cheeks of the pouches press together, and there is no uninsulated space.

Urging: In the US: Buy 6 Wallmart 100% polyester pillows @U$2.50 first.

I use the Z liner with my New River underquilt for low temperatures. #1 S biners attach it to the NX 250. It doesn't move and lines up perfectly with the attachment points of the hammock. The whole rig including pillow , and W/ Incubator are stored inside a LST . It's bulky but my thing is more 4x4 than walking

    I went to -13°C with mine . . .

    . . . opps,

That was with the zLiner and my pads.

    But I was to hot . . .

I am looking to build some pads good to -28°C or colder.

I had to un-ignore Demo there for a moment, to be sure of what he said . . .

. . . but no your right the question hasn't been answered.

So here it is . . . NO the Z-liner will not get you to 0°C by them selves.
    Maybe with a good S-bag they would/wouldn't.
With my -40°C bag they would.

But that is all determined by many things . . .
    Clothing worn
    S-bag used . . . synth better that down

But I think we need to set a standard to compare cold sleep arrangements.
Like what would be a good standard night clothing . . .
1, 2, or 3 layers and of what.

IMO the best S-Bag would be synth bottom down top.

I am anxious to try out my -40°C/F bag this winter with Zliner and DIY pads.
but I doubt it will get that cold . . . unless I end up driving rig up north.

PS I will not use my down bag againg as a bag,
the one time I did, I had cold back and sweaty front.
