    skeeters eatin me through hammock

i know this sounds crazy but has anyone had a problem when they lay in their hammock "with a bugnet" without a shirt and have skeeters bite you through your hammock. cause i laid out in my hammock today cause it was SO beautiful today and had a shirt on go in the hommock and zipped up the bug net on my skeeter beater pro and laid there for awhile just fine didnt feel anything. then i got hot so i took off my shirt and said back down and almost immeadiately i started feeling pricks in my back which i thought was just grass touching the bottom of the hammock but it just kept happening. and after about a half an hour i had enough and took down the hammock and went back in the house thinking that all the prickling was the tips of the grass but when i came in my wife said that i had tons of skeeter bites all over my back and sides right where i was feeling the pricks at. but i had none on my arms or legs or chest just on my back and sides where i was laying.
so my question is is this possible, can skeeters really bite through parashute material and why is it when i have a shirt on i didnt get bit. im really confused because what good is a bug net if they can just bite you through the hammock. any info or experiences would be nice.

    thanks

    BT

That happened to me once, my shoulders looked like I had a rash from all the mosquito bites. You need something under you in the hammock or an underquilt. Your shirt was probably enough to protect you at first but once you took that off, you were nothing but a mosquito buffet

Two options to prevent this -

    1 - double layer hammock

    2 - underquilt or pad

They couldn't bite with your shirt on because you had the minuscule holes in the fabric of the hammock not quite matching up with the minuscule holes in your shirt.

Once you were bare-back in there, it was free lunch for them.

Once I treated my hammocks there was no need for the bug nets! They haven't bothered me since

There are numerous links in HF about permethrin. The above should give you enough information.

Don't argue with the alligator until after you cross the river.
