    Had To Sleep Inside!!

Had to do it. My rig with one tree and a post with the boom-stake setup (Alamosa)? couldn't take all the rain. I have spent over a month outside in my WBBB and in high winds and all night rain during that time, but the ground is just too saturated now and I could not move the booms. I am using short straps coming off the post, and I know I need to purchase longer straps. Just one of those things one puts off until too late. I like the boom setup though. There is a warning system built in. Sat down on the hammock and felt the drop, checked the the front spike was 5 inches up. I repositioned and the other strap loosened. That was it, had to go in the house and sleep on my therma-a-rest on the living room floor, where I have been sleeping for three years. Who needs a bed!
Loving the WBBB. Have a Incubator on order and hope to add a Burrow for Christmas. I will see how late into the fall I can hang, then move it onto the porch.
    Stop rain!!
    Yep, just babbling!

Sounds like a sad day. Hopefully the ground will dry soon for you.

If yours is a permanent setup, have you considered using those corkscrew anchors that dogs are tethered to instead of the stakes?

Yep, thinking of using those Aven, at least until the ground dries out and I either install a 4x4 or pour concrete for eye bolts. I'm too old to plant a tree.

deerfu39, I bought two eye lag bolts that are rated for 325 lbs. I have two 4x4 in the porch about the right distance (must measure). They are butt-jointed to a beam overhead, but I will screw a 2x4 to the beam, between the 4x's. Then I will tie a string between the eye bolts and watch for sag for a while and tape the bolts and monitor that they don't start to come out.

I am so glad I don't have a fancy house and a wife that lets me run a-muck!

In my testing, the corkscrew anchors did not hold well. They bent and then pulled out. That was a driving force behind developing the stake booms.

Alamosa, your boom rig worked extremely well. I will continue to use your setup for traveling where no trees.

The last two weeks we have over 6 inches of rain, I sink three inches just walking in the yard. Plus I know my straps-to-ground are at an entirely too steep of an angle.

All my fault, no knock on your setup. Thanks for sharing your idea. I know I need something more permanent. I didn't know if I would even like hammock sleeping when I started.

Wow! Just so we're comparing apples to apples, we're talking the 18" spiral tie out right? If so that's impressive.

Alamosa, I've made up several of your stake booms, just waiting for an opportunity to check them out.

I use those at the beach for the canopy's and have not had a pull out yet. These are very strong and on the order of tie downs for mobile home for tornadoes.

This is the type of anchors used for utility poles. If you can screw them into the ground, they will not pull out.

If I use the corkscrew anchors, do I screw them in straight down, or use the tilt-away angle?
