Cuban fiber / vapor barrier top quilt

Just came across these Cuban fiber top quilts by EnLightened Equipment. They are waterproof, vapor barrier, loft adjustable, 900 down quilts that appear to be a bit lighter than most 900 down top quilts out there.

There is a valve that can force air in and out of the tq to adjust the loftiness, fine tuning it to the temperature! Pretty ingenious I think. They also have a synthetic version. As with any cuben fiber product, they are pricey! Around $500. :/ you can also choose a thicker cuben fiber for added durability.

Just wanted to share incase someone hasn't seen these things yet. Anybody own one of these and know how it performs?

Tim Marshall is a member here. He is actually a new convert to the hammock. Makes some really nice stuff from what I've seen. Haven't used one myself but the guys on BPL talk up his quilts quite a bit.

The linked TQ is 1.5oz lighter than my Stealth (which is a TQ, UQ, or Serape) but $300 more. That's $100 for 0.5oz. Not worth it for me. hyoh.

Be aware that any gear that acts as a vapor barrier brings with it the associated pros and cons. There is no way that I'm going to use anything resembling a vapor barrier above a temperature in the teens. Below that though is where the benefits of a vapor barrier come into it's own. However, you still need to be knowledgeable with how to deal with a vapor barrier system, which is a whole subject unto itself.

I thought he might be on here....

IMO, I wouldnt pay that much to save 1-2 oz unless the pros of it smoked what I already had.

The concept of his stuff looks really great and really thought out. Hafta appreciate innovation when you see it! That said, the application and knowing the timing to use vapor barriers is currently out of my experience level. The threads are here and will use them when OB-1's auora tells me it time and I can apply them. Seems like a concept better learned through experiences rather than reading it.

Gonna keep Tims stuff in mind for a future purchase...
