It's not quite as good as polyester but it's a lot better than nylon!
They have a little black and a lot of maroon.

So what type thread and needle would be best for sewing this stuff?

Not the best straps for hanging. Been a few failures. I'd hate to see you get hurt saving a few cents.
This could be a lightweight webbing. They have two kinds, lightweight and heavy weight. I would not use this for suspension unless I was outfitting a bunch of kids. I use their polypro heavy weight webbing and like it a lot. But I steer clear of the light weight for suspension purposes. The range of breaking strength suggests to me it is a mixture of different weights depending on the color. Unless you can be sure it is a heavy weight selection I would pass on it for your purposes.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.
"Bless you child, when you set out to thread a needle don't hold the thread still and fetch the needle up to it; hold the needle still and poke the thread at it; that's the way a woman most always does, but a man always does t'other way."

The range of breaking strengths comes from the various strap widths available and the two duty ratings, light and heavy. I wish Strapworks would publish the rating for each type they make instead of giving us a range.

If you go find the individual product you're interested in, the breaking strength is published in the description. For example....I'm looking at the 1-1/2" heavyweight strap, breaking strength 1350 pounds. The 1" says it's good for 900 pounds. Looks like the lightweight in the same sizes are 900/600 pound respectively. Not as much difference as I would have thought.
I'm using some lightweight 1" for straps at the moment. I haven't ended up on the ground YET. I figure it's just a matter of time though. I'm also looking to go up to the wider webbing for my tree straps. I've noticed some marks in the bark on my palms (really soft) so I figure a little wider strap would be better. Does anyone know how bulky a marlin spike hitch will get if I go with the wider strap?? I just hope my toggles aren't too short.
