Smile VIDEO: Maddie's 10th Birthday Backpacking Trip

This video is a bit late--it's from last year's trip. There were all sorts of technical issues and time constraints that finally got worked out, so here it is. I'm working on a second video that shows much more about the gear, for those who want to know more about how to hike/camp with kids. Also, Maddie filmed her own version of the trip. Stay tuned for that. Here is the text from the video:

It's posted a year late, but here is Maddies Birthday Backpacking Trip from last year, when she turned 10. We hiked down to Chimney Top Creek in the Red River Gorge Geological Area, camped there, and day-hiked or played in the stream.

The background music is from a concert by the Northern Kentucky 5th grade Honor Choir performed later that year. Maddie was one of the sopranos.

"I fish because I love to; because I love the environs where trout are found, which are invariably beautiful... because, in a world where most men seem to spend their lives doing things they hate, my fishing is at once an endless source of delight and an act of small rebellion; because trout do not lie or cheat and cannot be bought or bribed or impressed by power, but respond only to quietude and humility and endless patience...." --Robert Traver

Saw that this morning! Really a great tradition you've started with your kiddos!

    She's definitely a charmer!

    Great Trip!

Nice video of a great time. Thanks for sharing. I am always stoked to see kids out in general, and girls in particular. We need more little girls like yours: adventurous, and capable and ...super cute too. Good for you.

Bonsaihiker, thanks for sharing your trip with Maddie. it will be a special memory for her for years to come. What a neat idea to have both of you film it from your perspective. Great to see young people out in the woods and soaking in creation. Tell Maddie happy 11th from those of us here at HF. Hope to see you both out in the woods someday.

You are very welcome. It is pretty cool to see the trip from her perspective, too. She is going to help me edit that. Stay tuned for her video, and be sure to have some dramamine on hand (if you don't understand why, just wait and see...).

What a cutie, and in her Hammock Forum Buff. What time of year was that? The weather looked beautiful.
