So, I have been using 2 side pullouts per side on my BMJ tarp.
I am swapping it out for an OES Ultra.
Any input on downsizing to 1 pullout per side?

Because of the size of the Ultra I'd go with 2 per side. Might as well take advantage of the larger size and have more room underneath.
Don't let life get in the way of living.
2 fer sure.
You can just use one that way, if you want, kinda do an asym pullout thang.
My vote would be for tow. Allows you to pull it out more then just one, add a bit of versatility for low weight penalty.
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.
Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.
Two per side is much more popular than one on the Ultra in most of the orders I've gotten for the combo, but I guess that this post has answered that already!
Thanks all for your suggestions.
I would figure with a tarp that large, two per side would make the most sense.

Use the pole mod
I like two pullouts BUT only one stake. I tie one length of line between the two pullouts and then loop a second line for the actual stakeout line. Hard to describe; easy to see on the attached photo.
PROS: A little less weight to carry, easier to set up, leaves tons of space inside the tarp.
CONS: Leaves just a small amount of slack between the two pullouts.
Its important that the stake line be attached to the pullout line with a loop that can easily slide along the length of the pullout line.
In the photo, on the left side you can just make out where the pullout line attaches to the stake line. On the right side of the photo, you can see where I'm using a treking pole close to the point where the V where the two lines connect.

The road goes ever on and on Down from the door where it began. Now far ahead the Road has gone, And I must follow, if I can, Pursuing it with weary feet, Until it joins some larger way, Where many paths and errands meet. And whither then? I cannot say.

Yes. That's a similar method to the one I've been using on my bmj.
Simple.
