    Prospective Hanger

Hi there, I'm a recreational backpacker that ventures out several times a year to the White Mountains of NH. I am very interested in reducing my pack weight and hanging seems to be one way to do that while adding lots of versatility to the options for shelter.

I'm definitely going go down the path of DIY and so far I think the Blackbird clone is most inviting.

For now I am reading as much as possible every night and preparing for the project. Deciphering all the threads and posts takes time, as does learning the new lingo. I am very apt at learning by reading and very handy. Forecast is fun.

Very excited to have found this forum. Thank you for welcoming me.

    Best regards,

    rdmnks

Welcome aboard from Florida. Not too sure about cutting weight off your pack here. I make a new lighter hammock and someone DIY's something else I've got to try. Picking up parts for a new collapsible grill today that hrairoorah introduced. I've come to the conclusion it never ends. You will hear it's addictive,I'm starting to think otherwise I look at it as a challenge. I must have it all! Enjoy the fun.

Good place to learn new tricks

    Hi,

I also am a newbie, I have learned at least 4 new tricks this week. Looking forward to the weekend when I get to sew. The seam taping and soldering iron cutting are my favorites to try.

    Welcome from AZ.

Welcome! Be sure to show us your work.

Hanging may not necessarily cut down a lot of weight vs a tent set up but lounging comfort, a good night's sleep and not having to deal with a muddy tent after a rain is great.

Welcome from Tennessee. DIY is great. Trying to keep up with all the innovative ideas that you'll find on HF is probably impossible. Keep tuned there's something new all the time.
