Pu costs less, weighs more, doesn't stretch, and is waterproof (does not "mist" in heavy rain.). Some have experienced failure of the pu coating over time (years.)

so basically what your saying is pu is better in everyway that i can see except its heavier and over a LONG time the coating can wear off what about patching or fixing it vs silnylon
That's my opinion...others may differ.
The failures of pu that I have seen involved large areas of delamination...repairs would have been problematic. Some thoughts, here...this fabric comes from a variety of sources. It stands to reason that some is better than others, although I don't know how you might determine that. How it's stored is probably a factor in eventual failure, as well. Finally, it's inexpensive enough that if it fails 5 years out, you can replace it w/o feeling too bad.

very true do you know of a good tarp made of pu that will pull tight and i would also like pullouts to have more room inside i know that you can add them but would be nice if they came with it
Dunno about the pull outs...that may be a problem. The Chinook 12x9-6, if you can find one, will serve you well. Here's a review that Randy did, which you may find helpful.

The MEC Scout 7'x10' is good value for the money. The Guide is larger at 9'x12'.
I own the Noah's tarp and Love it. Thing is rock solid. little heavy but I still hike with it. I still plan on getting a SilNylon tarp soon but not in the very near future. I will probably grab one with a Blackbird or around the same time. The Hennessey Hex PU is great also if you need something cheap with a dark color to it.
Every time I hang in a tree I get a coconut to the head.....stupid coconuts
I have been looking for a good tarp about this size and haven't had much luck. I was about to buy 6yds worth of the silicone coated ripstop fabric to make my own 10X9 tarp, that would have run me about $69. After reading this thread, I just bought a Chinook Tarp 12'x9.6' for $40.00. It is a little heavier but I am new to hammocking and I think this is going to be great for my first tarp!
If your trying to cover a skeeter beater pro..go 12' on ridgeline...and it will cover it very good..10 is going to be minimal in a squal like rain. My minimal coverage tarp for SB Pro that I/Wife uses,,is 12' x 12' diamond shaped,,better is my 10' x 12' silnylon from OES,,you can set it up like a tent and close the ends for total coverage in sevear storms.
