When I had to go to ground

Well, just fiinished a week in Wabakimi PP. It is 3 hours north of Lake Superior and is predominantly black spruce. On two nights I could not find a safe place to hang and had to sleep with my buddy in his tent. Even though I had 2 wallyworld blue pads I still suffered. The difference was way more than I expected. OY!

Sounds rough. At least you had pads and not an UQ.

Yea, I've gone to ground ONE time since starting to hang, NEVER again! If I can't fine a "Safe place to hang" where I'm at, I'll move on.
And, my last go to ground I was car camping & had a Camp rest (a really thick thermarest) on top of a CCF pad & I was miserable.
When you have a backpack on, no matter where you are, you’re home.
PAIN is INEVITABLE. MISERY is OPTIONAL.

Same here. My last car camping trip was awful. I had two Wally World pads and a Thermarest classic inflatable pad stacked and I couldn't wait for morning to come and pack up to go home. Never again in a tent for me.

I just spent the night tenting with a friend! Hopefully this is something I will never have to do again! I had forgotten just how hard the ground can be!

Its funny how horrific that sounds to me, and all of us but that's how most people do it.

That was the first week long trip I've had since going to the hammock. It was a bucket list trip for me. Truly and "end of the road" place. Seriously, no roads access the park. You can take a train in, fly in, or like us, paddle in. We saw no pther people for 3 days. Then we saw a few folks who flew in, then no one for another day, and then we passed the only other canoeists in our quadrant of the park. Thay caught up to us the last day and we all took the train out together.
