Im using Coats and Clark Nylon upholstery thread. The only stuff stronger and bigger stuff i could find was some "outdoor" thread at walmart, it was definately bigger thread.
As for a needle, I am using the needle my wife had on it already.

what I cant understand is why everything worked great for the first end hems then it went to poo.

Ill see if we have any of types of needles, maybe its a late night wally world call after all.

I am definately hitting those videos tonight.

RamblinRev , you could be on to something when i stop, I just stop lol.

Taking a peek at your vidoes tonight.

    Thanks much,

SOOOOO I redid everything, watched some videos, read my user manual, studied the forums, researched bobbin size, reseached correct tension porblems, and PRAYED.

WELL, it finally seems to be working now, I guess I didnt have the bobbin trhead tight enough on the spool with maybe backwards, the thread wasnt exactly where it was supposed to be right before you get to the needle...

PLUS I learned how to use my reverse lol.

The last two tests seem alot better, but tomorrow I will head out in search of Gutermann thread, maybe a new needle as well.

Thanks much for the help, ill post some picks in day or so now that I can move forward again.

RamblinRev thanks for those videosthey were awesome.

    thread and needles

Joannes just put a coupon in the mail for 50% off on that thread, and needles are so cheap to not have an extra pack. Funny thing is that I too have problems at times with the bunching of the thread and it seems to be related to the type of guttermans thread I use.

I had the same problem. The Guttermans was too heavy duty for my machine/needle selection.

Ok picled up some Gutermanns Upholstery thread fron JoAnns fabric, its all 50% btw.
Then bobbin'd some and thread it all nice and neat. It did well but I went back and used a 50% coupon to pick up more pins and some new 11 75 needles for the thread injector. I am about to see if that helps at all.

Seem to have the tension issues worked out too.

But did have a major mishap when i somehow hemmed about small faction of the corner to itself. I am going to see if it matters much since i have to fold it onto it self anyways for the whipping.

    We will see.

I don't mean to rain on your parade... but if that is a major mishap what are you going to call it when a fold of your tarp runs under the needle and you stitch the middle of the tarp panel to the hem on the side?

There's not a DIY person in all the forums who hasn't done that and worse. Relax. You are in good company. If someone hasn't done it it's because they haven't sewn long enough. Minor boo boo and nothing a seam ripper or tailor's awl won't fix. Chances are it won't matter once you whip or gather the ends.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.
