Glad you enjoyed the trip report Rikall, sweetbabyd & ganon414.
Mountain views are good for the soul....& getting to them is good for my waistline.

I would feel more optimistic about a bright future for man if he spent less time proving that he can outwit Nature and more time tasting her sweetness and respecting her seniority. - E. B. White (1899 - 1985)
You mentioned in your post that the track is unmarked. Is this the case for the whole track? Is it hard to follow at other times when there hasn't been a fire through the place? I might give this one a go next weekend if the weather holds up.
Rikall..easy to follow.
Veer left just BEFORE those cattle yards pictured, & follow the yard fence to a 4wd track, follow it up hill to the its end.
You are now on the ridge that will take you all the way too Monserrat.
Pass through the wire fence that need some fixing on your right. follow the ridgeline & you'll pick up the track straight away. In the valley on your left is Yamahra creek & in the valley on your right is a no-name creek. Imagine walking in between railroad tracks....you can't loose your way.
On the summit, you can see Mt Barney Creeks winding course waaay down below, with Yamahra creek trib flowing into it. Thats where the track will take you next.
South of the summit you'll come across a small cosy campsite amongst the Eucalypts, just beyond this...the track splits in two. Left drops down a steep ridge & takes you where you want to go.... the Yamahra Creek trib & track & the start of the Upper Portals.
Right..takes you along another ridgeline through Cedar Pass over to Mowburra peak & back down to Graces hut, another circuit for another day.

Try & find a copy of 'TAKE A WALK in South-East Queensland' by John & Lyn Daly....They're available at the local library if you don't want to buy a copy. Its the 'Bible' for walks in SE QLD, a good resource.
Hope that helps....if theres any other questions just give me a hoy.

Cheers for that ofuros. I just sourced myself a copy of your recommended book so I will wait for it to arrive and read up on the walk before giving it a go.
