I have something similar, but mine only mounts one end so I only need one tree or a post. I may have to steal this idea.
that looks awesome! I agree about metal fatigue... couldn't it be solved by use of a cantilevered system? IE, a figure 4 shape on the vertical and the long boom...kind of like how they reinforce engine hoists...

That's a great idea, I'll have to break out the welder and see what I can do.

How about, instead of an added leg, you run a rope/cable to the roof rack. Naturally it would depend on how the rack is secured. (Sorry first post from newbie, so apologies if I'm talking rubbish)
