My first hammock and tarp edging

As I'm new to the forum and sewing, I would like to show you some progress in my work towards making a real workable hammock and tarp.

What I have here is a mini (and I mean mini) gathered end hammock.

The dimensions are not what I was concentrating on but the skill of sewing, hemming etc.

This is a trial run to get a bit of practice. I'm using thread that came with the machine, it's a nice hue of pink.

I'd appreciate any constructive criticism in order to improve on the real project.

As for the tarp edging, I'm following pictures I have seen in the forum, taking on board the need to reinforce around the pull area/webbing attachment area.

Looks like you're ready to take on the full size versions.

Your lines of stitch are fairly parallel. For long, straight side by side runs, I will put some tape on the machine as a mark, or use a magnetic hem guide (older machine), or the side of the presser foot, and go slow. You can actually use a small c-clamp on the foot pedal, depending on the style, to "set it" so you can't mash it down. Slower is actually better sometimes, for looks. if you want it to look "perfect" you can bury the thread ends in the layers. Or a couple lock stitches and trim very close. if you are using nylon thread, you can melt them to a tiny ball. But it looks good.
An emergency of my own making...is still an emergency.

Come on. You know us 'Yanks' aren't polite. We're just sincere.
