    DN setup too tightly?

    Hey all,

Just spent a couple nights in my DN and I think I'm doing something wrong here...

How can I make it so the hammock doesn't "cocoon" when I lay in it? I'm thinking I either have it set up too high or tight. Basically when I lay in it, the doublenest just wraps around me so I can't see out at all. Any help is appreciated!

    Thanks!

Yep, sounds like you've got the hammock strung too tight. Generally speaking, the ideal angle for your suspension to hang is 30*. This will reduce the forces on the suspension itself, and get you closer to a comfortable level of sag in the hammock. Have you thought about adding a structural ridgeline to the hammock? These force you to hang the hammock with the same amount of sag every time. I would recommend starting with an adjustable one, so you can find a length that offers the most comfort.

My experience in a DN is about the same. You can lessen it to a degree by laying more on a diagonal rather then straight down the centerline. I have often thought of sewing a loop onto the middle of each side and connecting them together underneath the hammock. haven't gotten around to trying that yet. There is just more fabric there than I need but a SN is too small for me.

More sag and a RL will help.

Thanks for the responses. I have thought about adding a RL and it looks like that is the way to go. Definitely had it rigged too tightly this weekend, so the next go around I'll work on the 30* angle.

I use more than 30* with a DN. Don't know why that works for me, but I suspect it has something to do with all that fabric Stu is on about. Love my DN.
