    Poncho Tarp

    Anyone have experience with these?

Two pieces of equipment in 1, looks like it might be a tight squeeze under the hammock, but perhaps its possible. I own an ENO double nest...

The long looks doable on an asym type diamond. 4.3' x 8.7' gives you a ~9.7' diagonal. Not too bad....

I purchased the poncho shelter from Jacks R Better to dual purpose and use to create a Griz Beak-like end cap for my stock Hennessy tarp. (The poncho is a great product by the way.) It has similar demensions to the ponchos you were looking at. (58" x 104") It seems much smaller than my stock Hennessy tarp that most seem to feel is marginal at best. I think it will be great as the poncho it is meant to be, an emergency shelter if something goes wrong, or additional coverage to supplement my other tarp. I would not want to count on it to keep me and my hammock dry.

Someone in another tarp thread suggested cutting a cheap piece of plasic to the size tarp you are looking at and try it out. This would let you try out a different sizes untill you knew exactly what you needed to get by.

Yesterday someone had one of the Hennessy poncho/rainflys in the for sale section. I do not know its exact demensions, but it may be larger than a regular poncho.

I've used the GoLite Poncho Tarp several times in the rain with my hammock and it works fine (as long as the rain isn't sideways! You can check my gallery for pics.

Cool set up with the poncho tarp. Thats pretty good coverage for an 8x4 set up.

My impression is that they are a little small. Hennessy makes a tarp with a couple zippers so you can wear it as a hoodless cape.

It would be interesting to make a two-piece tarp, and you could use half as a poncho.

I use a custom poncho for an undercover-- a variant on the Hennessy SuperShelter.
