There is a difference between a gathered end and a channel end hammock. The gathered end hammock is how WBBB's are finished and the gather creates a ball of fabric at the ends that the suspension is wedged against (with a lark's head). The through channel is a sewn channel like a Claytor or a switchback or a ENO... where the suspension is threaded through the sewn channel.

The HH hammocks and the clone thread show a folded whipped end. Lots on here like that method. For me I make all of my HH clone hammocks similar to that thread but I use the WBBB style gathered end (see Knotty's sticky thread on the gathered end hammock) instead of the folded whipping. For me it is a great combination and very comfortable.

    Thank GvilleDave.

My first diy hammock is based of the HH clone. I will check out knotty's sticky again.

I am from Gville as well. Moved up from Chucktown and started at Hubbell about a year ago. It's been blazin lately hasn't it.

I'm still experimenting with different end folds on my hammocks. When I first started I kept the ends together with rubber bands and then found that they weren't necessary. Now I just bunch the ends and larkshead the suspension to the end. On my house hammock I'm currently using a modified version of Jeff's 'W' fold. This has been the most comfortable for me. My new hiking hammock is still in the experimental stage. May even try a channel end style. Hippo's spreader rings are very intriguing, thinking something along the lines of internal lightweight spreader bars. Any Thoughts?

I have been messing around with some, but none have fit in the side bag. I want wide aluminum tubing ovals, with a welded gusset for the suspension. Even with rubber bumpers, some that I mocked up from conduit put a kink in the material. Its a sharp bend.
An emergency of my own making...is still an emergency.

Just thinking on the fly. Maybe a second channel below the end channel with something like pex tubeing in the channel. Flexible but ridged enough to hold the end open.

    Gathered end.

I kind of like the cupping feel that the gathered end on mine gives. Like it is holding me in folds.
