Made a quick trip up to Grayson Highlands State Park yesterday afternoon just to escape the heat and take a look around. Got my motorcycle packed about 4:30 and rode the hour and half to the campground meeting a friend at the entrance.

I wasn't sure when I left if there were any places to hang in that park and still be close to our bikes. But we found a perfect spot! This was my friend's first time in a hammock and I brought 2 rigs with me to set up. I gave him my custom double layer made by Detail Man so he could use his pad and I set up my old faithful ENO for myself. He got the new WB Bug Net too to give him some assurance since he had always been in the tents.

I got to play with my new pole mod for my OES Ultra and apologized to him that he had to use the Noah Tarp 9. Well you know girls just gotta have fun!

We grilled steaks on the grate provided by the park and I made rice in my Bush Buddy demonstrating how cool it is to have a stove that works on sticks & twigs. After dinner and a little campfire time, I helped him get settled into his hammock and retired to my lofty haven too. Soon after I was comfortable I could hear sounds of slumber from him nearby. HA! He fell right to sleep! Knew he would and he was not sure if he would like it.

I awoke first and watched a little chipmunk darting around clueless that I was above it. I had chosen to sleeep without a bug net because there weren't any mosquitoes up there! The air was so cool and wonderful and when the sun came out it was still marvelous.

As he rose he said he slept well! I got up too and made coffee first. I turned around to offer him some and he was back in his hammock! He said he loved it and it made better scene than a tent.

One more new up & coming hanger and he wants to be a DIY'er too!

Sorry I have no pics, because we both had forgotten our cameras! But I swear it really did happen!

If you've never been to the Va. Highlands it is a beautiful place and the last weekend in September there is going to be a Hammock Forum Hang at the Fall Festival you should try & make.

Funny thing...I don't have say much. Took this friend on a day hike couple weeks ago and brought along a hammock for when we took a break. I strung it up and kicked back...that's all it took.

Sounds like a great time. I'm looking into venturing into motorcycle camping soon enough.
