    Source for lines

Does anyone know where I can get amsteel to make whoopie slings AND dyneema or something else suitable for a structural ridge line at the same vendor so i can save on shipping costs? I'm trying to avoid paying a minimum shipping charge from two different venders. Also, since the ridge line doesn't carry a lot of load I'd be interested in any ideas to source budget line for this application locally. I saw some red and white line at Harbor Freight for almost nothing, but the diameter is a little big and I don't know about its tendency to stretch ... Any other ideas anyone? Thanks in advance. I can be very "frugal" when I'm making gear. I'm making a trial hammock and so far I've spent about $10 for some black ripstop nylon and thread using a 50% off coupon and $3.99 for some straps with an adequate load rating.

I have purchased from Redden Marine, both Amsteel and 1.75 Zing-it. I use the Zing-it for the ridgeline and Amsteel for the whoopies

Another vote for Redden Marine. They are good folks to deal with and get orders out pretty quickly.

    litetrek,

I'm sure there are alot of places to purchase from.

Just received a DYI order from Scott at diygearsupply for making some DIY at home projects. You can e-mail Scott from the website if you have any pre-order questions. He's great at getting back with your with answers. Also Scott is very knowledgable in DIY gear making and has made alot of gear himself.

If your looking for like you said sort of a one shop stop.

Good luck on your gear material search...

    Thanks and .....

Thanks everyone for the info. The ideas help a lot. Does anyone have any ideas for the second question I asked...cheap alternative cord for a structural ridge line that could be found anywhere? My objective is low cost.

You can make a ridgeline out of paracord. It doesn't carry the same strain as the suspension lines do and if it should snap the worst you'll get is a bit of a jolt. No head cracking on the ground. But remember that paracord will stretch under tension. But your ridgeline (even SRL) should still be loose enough for you to be able to twist when you're in the hammock.
