    MYOG 1.5 oz/sqyd Cat Tarp with doors.

    I made this tarp a couple of weeks ago from 1.5 oz poly coated nylon.

    This was my first tarp attempt and it shows

    The tie-outs took longer to sew than the basic tarp!

    Started with cutting the fabric on my specialist, low profile, padded cutting platform ;

    I finished the basic cat tarp before adding the doors as I wanted the edges hemmed for extra strength and measured the doors to have enough overlap when set up on the ground with my Leki's;

    After sewing on the doors I ended up with this( taken after I got back from a weeks kayak trip with it); I really should have used bias tape, I don't like the uneven look. A lesson learned for Tarp 2.0

    Its cavernous inside, definitely the wrong side of UL;

    Corner tie outs, reinforced with 6oz nylon;

    There are 19 tie outs. 13 of them are made from polyester hem tape. The 4 corner are polyester webbing for durability. The RL ties are Grosgrain, reinforced with webbing too. Gutterman thread all round too

    I didn't want a cat ridge, so I made the centre tie-up loop shorter than the neighbouring 2 to give a Catenary shape to the ridgeline.

    I had problems keeping the doors unruckled(is this a word) whilst sewing them to the hem, I'll use bias tape next time I think. The tie-out reinforcement isn't right either, another mod for next time.

    Dimensions; 3.4 m/ 11.25 ft x 3m/ 9.9ft

    It weighed 540g before the doors, 680g after, 800g odd with all cord, clips, RL etc.

    This fabric is incredibly quiet- even with the doors dangling in the wind there is very little sound.

    Testing isn't going well, weather has been amazing for months

    **** you Pete!?!

    Don't make headlines like that! First i nearly choked in my tea, then i nearly flooded my laptop with the remaining tea(i thought for a moment you've made an entire tarp weighing in at 1.5oz)

    But you've done a really great job(as usual)i wish i had your diy skills. That tarp is going to be one sweet hammock home in the wintertime!.... Awesome

    Edit: So it is you Brit's that are hogging all the good weather, we have had the worst summer for a long time over here!
