    Another big name is commercial machines in Juki.
    You can't really go wrong with an old Necchi or Juki.
    They are very serviceable, and built to take abuse.

    Just noticed this thread was still getting responses. If you look at some of my other threads you will see I got a sewing machine and have already begun making things
    But it'll help people looking for sewing machines in the future

    I've been in three factories that made heavy nylon/leather items, and all used Juki. This hammock stuff is lightweight by comparison, and the household machines are fine. My wife has a Janome 1600 that can even sew webstrap.

    Just do what I did. Let it be know in your circle of friends that you are looking for a sewing maching. Somebody will know somebody that has one they aren't using.
