I had this upgrade done recently and would recommend it to anyone interested. It is a great idea; topped only by the quality of work done. Having sewn a bit recently on a tarp/quilt/cover trifecta I know average work when I see it--and this aint it. It is really well done.

    Thanks!

    2 Questions for 2Questions:

Does this allow the HH to be used like any other toploading hammock?

    How much $$?

Side entry was not the intent of adding the zipper mod. I was interested in access to my gear bag, breathability, no condensation crystalization during winter months, etc. There are several getting full side zippers with a 1/2 zipper on the other side. They will have to evaluate whether the HH can become a "toploader". My HH only has the 1/2 zippers and I wouldn't recommend continual side entry with that mod. I'll PM you with more details.

Full zip one side, 1/2 zip the other is a success! My wife finished Happy Camper's HH tonight and it looks great. HC should have it back in a couple of days and an evaluation from her forthcoming.

My explorer deluxe went in the first of the week also so I'll let you know how it turns out. I was very impressed with the quality of work I saw in the pictures of the modifications.

Maybe I'm just weird but I had several motivations including a little bit of claustrophobia. Yes, believe it or not, just having a bug net over me in certain lighting conditions sets me off at times. I'm one of those folks that have to have a maximum dose of valium to even consider a standard MRI machine!

Don't feel alone. I PM-ed 2Questions about getting his conversion for EXACTLY the same reason. My claustrophobia isn't severe; but it does hinder getting a good rest. However when the skeeters are flying, I'll gladly suffer the bugnet!!!

I'm now just waiting on some feedback on the full-zip before I send my HH off to 2Question for his wonderful conversion.

    Thumbs up Excellent work

You all wont be disappointed, I was very happy with the results and the quick turn on getting it done and returned.
being able to throw things in from outside and then being able to stow gear (I have a JJ gear hammock) and the openness will take care of the closed in feelings.
    thanks again 2Q and wife
    Have a great weekend
