    Hanging strap length??

I have been researching the forums and have not come up with a clear answer. I am making 1" poly straps for a suspension line. How long should I make each line from each end of the hammock? I know its kinda of subjective as to where I would hang. I plan on going to different places so distances will vary. SO what should my length be? How long should I make an extension?

12' to 15' seem the norm and will cover a lot of variables in the piney woods.

When I converted my HH and CJH to straps

I ordered 15' OA lengths from Paul at AHE. These have proved to be sufficiently long for a single wrap around each tree (sometimes 18-20" dia) and I figure if I need additional length I will use my tree straps.

Shug and Jim are right, 12-15' is the normal length that we do the most for webbing suspensions. Though we have done some to as much as 20 feet on each side and as short as 8 feet.

Shug and jsaults took you at your words "straps for a suspension line."
12-15 ft is it: your suspension, but for optional clamps and connectors. (Except if all your trees were big'uns in the rain forest.

Those are not to be confused with shorter straps which would be used IN ADDITION to rope.

Should you later (or now) wish to be reduce the bulk, half and even most of that strap could have 7/64" or 1/8" Dyneema (tm) equivalent line substituted for it.

Among reasons for great variation in length reported here and by vendors are differences in size of usual trees, and whether, for simplicity, lines will have a full length and redundant return.

I get along with 10' straps, but more is better until you're sure. It's easier to cut them off if you want to later than to add length...

Oh, and Shug you're freaking me out with your new avatar...
