    Dimensions and Cut for Pad?

I have a piece of 1/8" polyethylene foam from McMaster-Carr that is 48" wide and 6' long. I'm hoping to cut it and use it as an underpad for some summer use. I'm thinking like high 50's and up. It should be pretty light after being cut, and even now, I think it's around 7 or 8 ounces. I have seen a bit about the asym cuts for pads, but just looking to get some more input. I'm about 5' 10" and 145, small-average sized guy. One issue I've had with pads is developing cold shoulders or sliding off the pad and into a cold spot (even when using a DL hammock). Probably just pads that are too narrow for hammock use. Anyways, what are your recommendations on how to cut it in terms of dimensions and shape? Also, once I get to use the pad, I will let you know how it fares. Here's the link to the foam I bought. (It's pink... ) http://www.mcmaster.com/#8726k91/=d5ujse

I cut my minicell into two, each 36x48 made a good torso pad plenty wide enough so that you don't fall off. Wrinkles up a bit when you lie on it, but I didn't want to cut wedges out of the side to lessen that. I don't find the wrinkles noticeable when I have a bag under me and/or a layer of clothes when it's colder. Based on the design of SPEs, it seems as if 30" should be wide enough. Maybe I will cut one narrower to try it.

I've had problems too with sliding falling off. It is tricky to get it right when you lay down it. Here's what I did and it works pretty good for me.

I never thought about a cutting the standard square pad. Kind of a cool idea, but for me it was about coverage.

Warbonnet has some great advice on width of pads. I used his suggestion of 30'' with great success before I took the UQ plunge.

30" sounds like the magic number! Thanks a lot! Any more input on the asym cut would be great too.

    PINK? Only you stef.

I had some ccf when I started and cut the mat in half. Laid the upper torso section 90* to lower torso, forming a big T. Narow near the hips and legs, wide at the shoulders.
Worked good, rolled up nice and stayed put in the DL hammock. I'd lay it in the hammock on a asym diagonal, and plop into the hammock.
