    Continuous Ridgeline Question...

    SO...

If I set up a CRL I'd connect my tarp to it with some prusiks and S-Biners.

My question is about connecting the CRL to the tree. The first connection I was just going to form a larkshead but won't that prevent my hammock attachment from passing between the loop formed since it would be tight to the tree??

How can I form a loop on each side of the tarp crl in order for the hammock suspension to pass in the middle of it?

I see how it works in the Sticky on the top of the page but can this work for a CRL???

You can "cheat" a little bit by wrapping the tarp CRL around the tree in one direction such that the CRL comes away from the tree, not at the center of the tree but a bit to one side. Then do the opposite with the hammock suspension. Wrap the tree straps in the opposite direction from the tarp's CRL and have the hammock suspension offsett from the center of the tree, opposite the tarp CRL. I also make sure the hammock is "downwind" of the tarp line. That way, if the hammock swings in the breeze, it's moving away from the tarp line.

You can use a 'biner in the loops at both ends and attach them to a prussic on the ridgeline. (total of 4 on the CRL. 2 for the tarp and 2 for the ridgeline.) When you adjust the prussic to tighten the ridgeline, sometimes it will be under the tarp and you will have to switch with the prussic that the tarp is attached too. This will create the Y at each end for the hammock suspension to pass through.
    I hope this helps...

    Ditto what MAD said

That's what I've ended up doing. I've got a CRL made of zing-it and amsteel whoopies. Those two cords are both pretty abrasion resistant and slippery so I don't care much if they rub a bit. I've tried it like Mad described and that works pretty well. Sometimes instead of trying to put the hammock towards one side and the tarp the other I go kind of on the diagonal. I'll rig the tarp ridgeline "straight" then right the hammock suspension "crooked" with the head end to one side and the foot the other (or vice versa). This is a lot easier with larger trees (12" diameter or larger).

It would be easier if my tarp ridgeline was just a bit shorter or I was willing to rig the hammock suspension a little lower/tighter. I wanted the maximum in coverage so it's been kind of a tradeoff.

    Shuggity Shug......

Will those be tight to the tree though??

I understand the angles that other posters have stated. That's what I've been doing previously. It's just that when I look at the STICKY post about splitting the tarp lines with the hammock line it doesn't look like it's possible with most setups of a CRL.

Now if I can do it with those dutch clips then where can I order them??

    EDITED TO ADD......

OOPS I thought you meant dutch clips, haven't seen them there hooks yet!!

Anyone got a pic of them in action?

This is one http://www.outdoortrailgear.com/cott...goatgear/place I found the Dutch hooks.

Someone had a post a few days ago showing how to do the CRL and have the hammock come up between the lines. Made since when I saw it. Maybe I can try to search that for you.
