Two Hammocks, Three Trees, best tarp setup

I hate the thought of going back to the ground, but my kids require that I'm close by when camping. But if I could figure out a way to hang two or more hammocks in close enough proximity that it felt like we were under one "tent" or tarp, then I think I could get them converted to hammocks. So, for example, I've hung two hammocks using three trees, but I'm having a hard time envisioning how to pitch the tarps to cover both. Or is there one tarp that would be big enough? Any ideas?

There are several of us who do just what you are describing.

Here are some threads to look through and see of some of these ideas might help:

my ex and i used to do this all the time, either with 3 trees or just 2 (with branches going in opposite directions, so we were a bit apart.) a friend and i shared a palm tree the 4th for one connection too. my issue with the tarp would be unless you knew where you were going to hang every time, your hammocks still may be a bit apart at the other end. if you had a designated set of trees, you could get a tarp made in a trapezoid that would cover you well and do a dual RL.

my thoughts, but just make sure the doubled tree is nice and strong..

Yeah, the tarp is definitely the big question. I might make one of those honeymoon suites, but til then, gonna go out and play around with the superfly. Seems like it should have plenty of rooom one way or another. Thanks. /B

Before the Honeymoon Suite, we did 2 hammocks on 3 trees with a Kelty Noah's 12x12.

Experiment, play, take pictures, report back.

I have not tried it with hammocks but did a lot of common tarping with backpacker sized tents once son and daughter got big enough to want some privacy. I think you would find it interesting to play around with facing "porch mode" pitches with maybe a common roof to tie it together and a smaller tarp to rig as an end block for wind/rain when needed. It's often easier to do overlapping small tarps than one big one. It also lets someone drop a side if they want some privacy.

If your kids are still pretty young you could try the double-decker approach. I take my son who's 4 and he sleeps above me. The only issue is he can't get in and out by himself.

Which sounds like a good idea to me

Planning on taking my grandson, age 6, and I actually WANT him to not be able to get in and out by himself. Makes me nervous to think of him getting up to pee and wandering off. I'd rather he woke me up (I'm old, I'll probably have to go too anyhow) for his micturation. I must try the stacked hang!
