In that last pic, my hammock is behind the quilt that's hanging. That's three under one and 4 under one. It can be done. The tarp with three is just 22OZ. The tarp with 4 under is a beast, not for backpacking. But if you're just dropping out of the trunk, why not?
Thanks for the info. I want to convert my fiance' to hammocks, but she doesn't like being far away from me.
I like the dual ridgeline idea, I have done the 2ham, 3tree hangin in the past but the tarp would flop onto me a bit with a single ridgeline (Noah's 12x12). I think the dual RL will help with this a lot. Looks good to me.
My son and I have only used 2 trees with 2 hammocks and 1 tarp. We make sure the trees are the "right thickness" so we are not touching unless we want to: 18"-24" is fine and then we lay heads to toes under a diamond pitch tarp, each set of tree huggers coming off one side of each trunk. Originally 9X9 Tyvek and for BSA summer camp last week we had a GG 12X12. Even when it rained we never had a problem with Tyvek, the harder issue is with the GG12X12; this thing is HUGE in diamond pitch and can be a little tricky if the trees arent far enough apart.
we did it this way cus the site next to us had campers on it.
we did it last month on Cape Cod. had a 11x9 set up in porch mode. rained one night and would have worked fine if we didn't tie off to the eze up. but when we retied it it was all good.

This is what I made for me and wife and many others... works well. Since this video, I've upgraded from a 3.5' V to 4' wide V...

The name, "Honeymoon Suite", is cute, but misleading. I have seen this tarp, and two grown men could share it w/o anyone's guy bona fides coming into question. They would have substantially more room and wx protection than any single tarp would provide. One word: "cavernous."
