Prussics in general don't hold well on same-diameter line. They work best on larger line than the prussic loop.

My kids' hammocks have rainbow accessory cord for ridgelines (about 1/2 the diameter of paracord) and the mason's line works great as a prussic loop, or klemheist knot.

I used braided mason line for prussics until after a short while it wore through. I've had much better luck with Speer no tangle and Kelty Triptease. Costs more but lasts way longer.

Bought 500' neon braided mason line today from Home Depot. I was thinking of putting mason line prusiks on my 1.75 mm Utility line (Zing-it, basically) to hold my tarp down. Anyone have any experience with this? Should I just go with prusiks made of the 1.75 line itself on the tarp RL?

Regarding twisted mason's line unraveling: I've used the stuff for tarp tie-downs and other low-load jobs for a couple of years now, and what I've found is that you need to avoid cutting the line when you separate a section off. Instead, heat it with a lighter/candle/match/etc. and pull the section off of the main spool rather than cutting it. This avoids giving it a chance to start unraveling, and you have a perfectly good section of line to use.

I haven't had any unraveling trouble with the mason's line I use to strap things to my bike's rack in over a year of use. Doesn't mean I won't in the future, but it hasn't happened yet.

Well that goes to show ya. I went to Harbor Freight and got their "Construction line" and it is TWISTED, not Braided.

OOOOPS. Oh well, i can always use this line, I will keep it and go to HD and get the real deal:

    And not the Twisted line:
