I found with the cheap twisted line I bought that it could unravel itself a little about a foot or two from the end even if you caught the unravel and sealed the line off with a match. I'd put a taut line hitch in with this particular piece of cord but it wouldn't slide over the bump created by the little unravel so in the bin it's going.

I love the braided. Its such a loose braid that splicing it is so simple. I use solid strain telephone wire 2 pair. I separate the two then remove the coating and whala. I do find that prussiks don't hold well with mason line on mason line. I made a 12'' continuous loop and rapped 8 times. 12'' is a little too long and I will probably make a few smaller.

I managed to get the braided line yesterday. Of course they only had it in hot pink and neon yellow, so I'll never be able to misplace a prussik. I guess that's a plus....
I think I'll just tie it into knots, I don't have the skills or the patience for splicing. Thanks for the tips!

    never throw away string!
donate it to the local craft guild or daycare- they will use it for crafts and such...

You can probably find it in a hardware store near the chalklines plumbobs, and levels. At least that is where it is located at my local hardware store.

You can mention that it is small line used when building a foundation / pouring a slab. that might point them in the right direction....
