That is my concern. My maps don't show very many water sources. I usually hike with my dogs, so water for them is a huge concern....and the more water that I can find means the less I have to carry!

Without a doubt, especially with the pups. Have to try and find out some more about the water availability for sure...

    TCT:

Water is going to be an issue during the middle and end sections. There is only one place that I know of for sure that has water and that's going to be questionable towards the end of the summer.

You will need to pack lite and have lots of storage for water. This is going to be one HE*L of a hike as water IS going to be sparse for most of it.

We will have to have cars at multiple locations for water refills.

I'm still working on all the details for planing this hike.

One idea I have is we do a group hike/hang on the Taconic Crest Trail here in the Berkshires. I would think that its going to be a 3 day hike/hang as its 32 miles and it resembles parts of the appalachian trail in the southern region from what I have been told by a AT hiker.
In September the weather is more reasonable and the bugs are not as vicious. Upon completion there is a TCT trail patch put out by the TCT club that is available to threw hikers of it for 2 bucks.

This could even be a separate event if anyone is interested in doing it that way.

====> Missed this post, somehow, Gene! I would be up for the TCT hike for sure, especially if it is then! Keep it on the docket, Pres!

OK so as the President, looks like I will post where we will be going in the fall.

Anyways, due to some requests and ideas and also my personal opinion to keep it somewhat central to new England as we start to grow as an event I think the fall event should be held at Monadnock State Park in N.H.

    Info:

    Reserve America:

So the problem is that I live about 3hrs from there and I have no idea as to what sites are good for hammocks.
The group site is not an option due to the lack of trees from what I have been told by park staff today.

I was given the number to the other office there and talked to Denis who suggested that someone should stop in and look at the sites and make a list of the good sites for us to use due to the fact we need trees.

Denis thinks that Loop B, sites 7, 8, 11, 10, 9, & 6 might be what we are looking for but there is no way to know for sure as he is not a hammock camper and doesn't want to miss lead us.

Is there anyone that lives close by that can take a ride over and look at the sites?
If so, let me know and you wont be charged to get into the park to look around. I just have to let Denis know when you will be stopping in and he will let the other staff know.

We need to start reserving our sites soon as they said that they fill up on the weekends now as they are getting into there busy time.

Also we need to pick a date, Sept, 23 - 26 are open for the entire loop right now. Any objections to this date if we have confirmation on the sites being good for hammocks?

    Quick Info:
These sites can hold a max of 4 adults & 2 kids
    No Pets allowed,
You will need to reserve your own sites. It would be cheaper if you bunked up on a site instead of by yourself.
    $25.00 per night.

    Looks promising

Looks like a nice location Gene. I'm hoping someone from the area can check out the sites.
    Price Rate:$25.00-30.00 Per Night.
Max Num of People 6, Max Num of Vehicles 2
Each site holds up to 4 adults but I did find an extra charge.
    Under alerts and important information-
SITE FEE COVERS 2 ADULTS AND UP TO 4 CHILDREN. FOR ALL ADDITIONAL ADULTS A FEE OF $10 PER NIGHT AND FOR ALL ADDITIONAL CHILDREN FEES OF $5 PER NIGHT ARE TO BE PAID UPON ARRIVAL
