    DIY cheapo candle lantern

There was a thread a while back on a DIY candle lantern. Well Gargoyle posted a link to a site that sells LED tea lights. Well, I ordered 10 of them at $1.49 ea. They are submersible, use 2 cr 2032 batteries (included), are very bright and weigh .5 ounces. I put one inside of a McCormick spice jar as a diffuser connecteda piece of masons line and a tiny S-biner. The whole thing weighs 1.1 oz.2011-06-29 22.37.57.jpg

It will light up my bedroom enough to move around.

Thanks Gargoyle. I'm still interested in 2 Ogee tarps. I'm getting closer.

Yeah I got the same deal, 1.49 and shipping. nice little lites.put a dot of Velcro on em and stick where you will. Also a dab of epoxy and a string and hang where you wish. They are waterproof so no trouble with rain. Nice night lite. I have not tried yet but I think you can drill a fine hole in the bottom to hang a string from, use a dab O goop to ensure waterproofness!!gnome

Www.100candles.com look for submersible tea lights. they have about 20 colors to choose from.

I'm curious to see what kind of life you get from these, mind burning one for a day or two to see how long they last on a set of batteries?

This may be one of the only bright things I've done.

One of the complaints some people have had with candle lanterns is they do not cast enough light downwards for reading (I still love (and use) them ).

Looking at your setup, though, it occurs to me that you could attach the string to the bottom of the light and run the string through the top of the spice jar so that the light goes out and down. Do these led candles cast enough light to make this candle lantern an effective reading lamp as well? 'Twould make a really cool idea even cooler
You're gonna need a bigger hammock

The web site claims they will burn 48 hours on a set of batteries. But I will do a test burn this weekend when I can be home to supervise out. The kids are out of school and are nosy.
