It's awesome, I love mine. If you need parts, let me know, I got a clone (Standard S.M.C.) for parts, and my singer is all serviced up. Tensioner is already gone. Now that I look closer, I can see that only some of the parts are the same. The tensioner was identical.

Nope. here is a link to the free download pdf manual.

You can get a zig-zag attachment. But I think they are hard to find, I have not personally seen one, nor do I know how well they work.

Thanks hippofeet, If I see another of these old jewels I'll snap it up - for parts if nothing else. Oh - and thanks for the pdf manual. I hope to get a lot of mileage out of this machine.
What are the common stitches that are used in gear making? Can I get away with just straight stitches?

As has been referenced in other threads... you can get away with only a forward straight stitch. Reverse in handy... but not essential. There are really only two types of stitches widely used commercially now. Straight and overlock. Zig zag is used commercially on occasion for special purposes but if you look at the clothing and gear available in the stores you will find straight and overlock (Merrow, serger and variations of those.)
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

generally speaking... not well. They can be very difficult to set up and keep balanced. The only thing zig zag is used for is buttonholes. And there are even workarounds for that. Plus button holes are not that useful in gear making.

Yeah, the only time I use anything but straight stitches is when I am repairing things for someone else. And then it is usually overlock, to replicate the original, or as close as I can get.
