Tarp Factory Outlet

I'm thinking of buying a silver UV tarp from tarp factory outlet (10 X 12) for my ENO singlenest hammock. I just want a decent rectangular tarp. not much else. Does anyone know the quality of the tarps from this site? Has anyone ever bought from them? If not else, any other company recommendations?

Never bought from them but a couple of observations:
- the tarp is polyethylene so it will be noisy
- the tarp is rectangular and may be hard to get tight, leading to flapping and more noise (will you tie off each grommet or only some?)
- the tarp is heavy (6 pounds).

That said, it does appear to be a decent rectangular tarp, especially with the UV protection. The price seems reasonable, too. Let us know how it works if you get it.

i would think anything would be lighter than that. have you ruled out simply getting a blue tarp from walmart or home depot?

Yes, I have bought from them...no complaints.

Poly tarps are okay, for what they are. Here's what they aren't: long term solutions. They will eventually fail at the grommets, and you really can't repair them, because sewing them is about like sewing garbage bags. They can be made to work, however, and will get you by for awhile.

You'd be better off with a 10X10 (Usually 6-person) Tent Footprint.

About $22-$32 clearance at REI's online Outlet - 2lbs (usually)

What are you going to do with it? For backpacking you will be very disappointed I suspect. Brass grommets are a disaster waiting to happen when it comes to lightweight camping gear. They distort by bending and they will bend! That leaves sharp brass edges to slice and dice the gear and pack they come in contact with. You won't be able to get that very small and it will take up voluminous space in your pack.

That said, if you don't care about weight and you are not going to be moving it; just leaving it set up in the back yard for the shade factor in your lounger you will probably be fine. After all... that's what it is made for.

For a permanent backyard set up, it looks good. For portability you may want to look at other options.

I use a ploy tarp, and it works--the perfect solution? No, but since I mainly car camp with the family, weight is not an issue for me. I've definitely got the radar up for a lighter weight and more permanent solution, but till then... 'tis what 'tis. If tarplessness is keeping you from getting out there, and the poly is your only viable option at this point, get it and just keep your eye out for a future upgrade

I was just looking for something temporary and not more than like a 1mi distance to where we'd be staying so weight wasn't really a factor. I'll definitely look at your idea R00K. I'm looking toward budget items right now so that will probably work fine. Is 10X10 a decent size for rain coverage?

The listing seems to indicate the tarp is 10x12 to fit the slant roof of the 10 x 10 square area. 10x12 is a very common size for larger tarps and very usable for weather protection.
