Dolly Sods. Ohio Hangers 4 the Aug 1 trip!

USMCstang and I had a great time last weekend. A little cooler weather though in the low 50s but slept warm. Could of used a beanie though. We found some great sites with a creek that runs right through it. Here are some pics and hope everyone is looking forward to the Aug 1 Hang.

Wow, that may just be the perfect place to hang! It looks beautiful. Thanks for scouting it out luke and stang. What's the trail? Hike distance? Would we stay at the one spot for the whole trip? If so, are there decent day hike possibilities? Sorry for all the questions, I'm just curious.

Also, what are the official dates so I can schedule them off?

Looks like the site#2 from last years group hang. Was that about 4 miles or so in on Blackbird Knob?

I think that's the place. The MNF Trailguide says it's 2.9 miles.

    That looks beautiful.

Looks like plenty of room for the OHangers.

I believe it was the weekend of July 29- Aug 1.

Moe-z and I would be heading out there Saturday morning and staying through Monday morning.

If anyone has those days in mind we could carpool.

Elevation at that campsite is 3720 ft. The trail in starts at 3900 ft. It may be pleasantly cool. I had a 40° night further down Red Creek once in July.

Temps could be cool, gotta love that. I have spent nights in mid-june in the upper 30's and one july 4th at 42 degrees. One time it was in the mid-80s during the day, but was only 45 the next morning. I do love the Sods!
Heading up this 4th of July. I usually hear fireworks too.
I have not missed a Memorial Day or a 4th of July at the Sods since 2006 (AT section hike, which was an pretty good alternate hike).

It's right at the crossing of the left fork of Red Creek on the Blackbird Knob Trail, about 100 yard upstream. We camped on the west bank. The east bank has a huge site, probably room for 50 hammocks. I haven't downloaded my GPS info yet, but it's about 3.1 miles exactly.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to make the group hang

Side note, if anyone reads Backpacker Magazine, the last picture, with me looking up, is supposed to be the pose resembling the ad, usually near the back of the magazine, of some guy shilling "mens supplements". I always thought it was a ridiculous picture.
