Thanks Shug! Agreed. I had to pinch myself sometimes. And it's funny, when you stay in the Valley for a while, you get used to the huge granite cliffs surrounding you. Every now and then, though, you stop and actually look at what's around you, and it's just like, "Whoa..." Never ceases to amaze me.

Thanks a lot! They say the best camera out there is the one that's with. A little point and shoot in the hipbelt pocked in this case does the trick! More than glad to share.

On my last backpack there, a Ranger told us not to go more than 10 ft from our packs, for just the reason you discovered. Those bears will carry off what they want, and getting any reward only encourages the to do it again.

And the rangers aren't kidding. In all honesty, I feel bad for the bears. We raided their home, built our little city in the heart of it known as Yosemite Village, and then sprinkled yummy snacks everywhere. Of course, as soon as a bear is tempted by one of those snacks, at minimum it is usually chased off with concussion rounds and noise makers. I heard a story of a guy bivvying one night somewhere in the Valley, and woke up to a bear staring him in the face. The bear then, playfully, pawed at his face, but its sharp claws but a pretty hearty cut across his face and eye. He didn't report it, though, because he knew the bear would have to be killed. I probably would have done the same. It's a sad, sad thing that those bears have to be killed.

Great pics Stefprez. Looks like a lot of fun climbing those rocks. Great hammock set up. By the way thanks for the heads up about the cables being down. Kinda gave me the mental preparedness before we got up there.

Wish I would have had a way to contact you. We camped the first night by Curry village.

Just heard one backpacker died and another one is missing in Yosemite. Really sad.
