the weight of gear

For the past year I've used my 17 month old daughters scale. Good to 45lbs and weighs to .5oz. I feel its not nearly the best and have been planning on buying a proper scale for awhile but haven't found one I want. I'd like a scale the weighs to the grams, has good enough reviews and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. That's asking a lot though, haha.

I'm satified with the baby scale for now. My weight is low enough 8-10lbs that I'm in no urgent need for one. I'd like to get to the 6-7lb range but can't make it happen without spending around $500. In due time.

I use a food scale for individual items, then use a fish scale for overall weight of the pack

I use a stamps.com digital postal scale. Not shipping through stamps.com anymore, but still use the scale.

I just put my pack on fully loaded and step on the scale. Subtract my weight and Voila!
Last Hiking trip I guided I was using older gear and carrying most of it (bunch of 12 year olds) and my pack hit 78 lbs with food and water!

78lbs??!?!? Yikes you're tough. I praise guys for getting their weight down, for using self control and doing it minimally, but you sir deserve the praise. I don't know if I could get the pack on my back let alone walk for miles with it haha.

i was just thinking of getting a Cuben tarp myself and the more i think about it ... do i really need one right now... i'm stuck car camping for a while and to be honest my weight is under 10lbs for 3 season... and i just got my summer setup down to 7lbs 2.4oz with a Sil tarp so i'm happy
maybe down the line i'll get a Cuben tarp but for now i'll stick with my Sil's
