CNN says "Hammocks make for deeper sleep"

Swiss researchers monitored the brain activity of 12 men during a 45-minute nap on a stationary bed and a nap of the same length on a gently rocking bed designed to simulate a hammock.

When they were in the "hammock," the men drifted off to sleep one minute faster, on average, and entered a deeper stage of sleep more than three minutes faster than when they napped in the still bed, the researchers found.

In addition, the researchers were surprised to discover that the men, while rocking, spent nearly five more minutes in that second stage of sleep (known as N2), which typically makes up about half of a normal night's rest. They also spent less time in the initial stage that serves as a transition between wakefulness and sleep.

Sorry girls, you're out of luck. This only says men!

Saw that, and shared a link on my facebook page and a non-camping friend of mine liked the article, and apparently has some sleep trouble... so anywho, I pointed him to the forums here, as I know several of the hardcores sleep in hammocks at home! I definitely love 'em on the trail, but I love my wife more at home!

Somehow I can't imagine her being pro hammock in the home! (she does hammock when camping, though!)

I haven't slept in a bed for 2 years now(i simply can't) and if i can't put up my hammock - i'm not sleeping....

Only a minute faster? That's not my experience. Sometimes I just lay down for a moment and then find out too much time has passed. "but honey, it was an accident...."
