    Material I.D. question

I was at farm and fleet today, and saw an outdoor backyard shelter type thing, like you would have a conversation with the inlaws in when they were over, and your house was messy or something. It had a taffeta top, but the door flap and front and back ends were a stiffish clear, slick plastic with an embedded net. Net squares were about 3/8 to 1/2 inch. I want some of that stuff. Anyone know what it might be?

Sounds interesting. It would be hard to guess without looking at it. You didn't happen to snap any pictures of it or anything did you?

    Like this?
It'll be heavy for a tarp that you want to pack.
    Link to clear poly tarps.
I think cannibal made a tarp from one?

Perfect. That's the stuff, thanks gargoyle. I don't wanna make a tarp, I am gonna TRY to make a sortof hardcover for my hammock, from a pattern for the bugnet and soft cover that both zip on. Or will soon after I get back home. And I wouldn't pack it, but I could roll it up and it wouldn't take much room in a canoe, or even the kayak. The soft cover I have made is just like a fully removable zippered bugnet, 7 foot long by 3 feet wide. So it's not as big as a tarp.

Didn't your mother teach you not to put your head in a plastic bag?

Just make sure you have adequate ventilation.

    Yepper! The Clearly Cool Tarp.

Does not compress AT ALL! It's also a very stiff material. It won't hold stitching, so it has to be taped. Also, the weight per yard is based on a sailmakers square yard, which is apparently a different beast. I can't remember off the top of my head how much it weighs, but it isn't nearly as light as I had calculated based on the posted weights/sqyd. The materiel itself seems to hold up alright. I've had this tarp a little more than 2 years and have used it maybe 20 or 25 trips with no noticeable problems. It is impossible to sleep much past sunrise. On the other hand, there is a very noticeable greenhouse effect on cool days. More than once, I've set it up for Genuine Draft to warm up a little. It's a fun tarp.

Grampa would be an apt description. It's just as stiff as an old man getting up out of a recliner and it wakes up entirely too early in the day.
