I disagree with telling folks to search before they post...just my opinion.
people posting ..regardless if it is redundant keeps a board active.....

I have seen other boards dang near run new folks off when they are told to use the search button instead of just helping them out..
one of the reasons I like HF is there is not a bunch of " Big Heads" blowing people off and what can be perceived as " your question is beneath me sysdrome"

Some valid points. Can we agree that even google could answer a few questions. Although I haven't seen much of it here whiskeybravo why would one start a thread " what's the temperature this weekend at XYZ?"

Stickies definitely help... Especially on a forum like this when there is a hundred plus people on at any given time and hundreds of post a day. The search function is not always helpful... But, I completely understand when people ask questions first without reading all the stickies...

There is a LOT of them and they are LONG. And sometimes the info you might think will be in one sticky is in fact in another... It can take a very long time to find stuff sometimes and the easier route for most people is just to ask a question and save all that time.

It's also good for sparking new conversations/ideas...

There is a place for both i suppose ;o)

Are stickys searching??? They are right there and hold good information that gets over-looked by the new ones on a forum.
My wish would be that they were highlighted at all times ...like new posts. Then they might catch the eye more. Not trying to blow anyone off but instead trying to help.
I get a lot of PMs asking questions (the curse of videos I reckon) and more often than not just repeat a sticky or lead the member to a sticky.

No there not... I was talking about the separate search function. When I am wanting to know a certain thing in a forum I use the search function... Sometimes it works well but other times it doesn't...

I agree with you about the stickies but I was just saying I think the problem with everyone not doing it is that while they all pertain great information it may not be the exact info they r looking for or it may just be easier tor them to post the question rather then reading through all the stickies on the forum...

Being new here, but not to forums in general, it is nice to see the helpfully nature if the forums here.

But there is a lot of info here, and often it not always where you thought it was... The stickies are great... But even here as on Internet searches in general you get results that require deeper searching and picking though...

I come here from several devices, and often on very poor network connections, here as in other forums it is sometimes easiers to ask a question, and have people post links or comments than for me to search and pick bough the results that take a lot of time on a slow or connection that often drops out....
