i don't have a sewing machine so the DIY is not going to work, but i like the ideas. i can sew , "but i left my sewing machine in San Fransisco" (that would make a good country song LOL)

poncho liner should work KK .... should not take long to hand sew the footbox
It puts the Underquilt on it's hammock ... It does this whenever it gets cold

I'm in a similar spot as kayak karl. I have a 3 Season Burrow that I LOVE, but I may need something that's not as warm for mid summer hanging. I have an older 40 degree REI rectangle bag That I could convert to a summer top quilt. Can anyone suggest a thread with directions on modifying a sleeping bag??? I don't sew, but my mom does, and maybe she could help me with it.
Thanks
KJ
i'm debating cutting down a cotton bedsheet for the dead of summer. coupling that with a summer UQ...
truth be told i probably don't need a top quilt at all in late july, august, and early september. will i be brave enough to leave mine at home?
I use a DIY 2-layer IX topquilt for temps ranging from 50-70. It took me three hours to make, and works incredibly well for the cost.

I use my trusty military poncho liner
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !
Another DIY 2-layer IX top quilt here. It's only good to about 50 degrees though. I had it out in cooler weather and it couldn't get the job done.
