    Maligne Lake, Jasper Park Alberta

Just got back last night late from 4 days and 3 nights on Maligne Lake. This was the first true test of my hammock setup and although I wasn't sure if I would be permitted to set up I still had to drag my tent with me. Spent two nights in the first campsite 22 km's down the lake and the first comment other campers said when they saw my gear was "what the hell is that!!"
Anyway, here are some pics and I will have more detail and pics in a couple of days but overall it was a great experience.

Are you sure that's water you're gliding along and not glass? Stunning scenery you've got there!

Aw I'm going to have to get myself out there soon. Do you need to get a back-country camping permit when you camp there?

It was an awsome weekend. Yes you do need the permits.

More pics of the weekend. Overall it was a great trip. I'm getting more comfortable with the WB and although it got down to about 4c at night I was relatively comfortable. There was just a couple of times the incubator seemed to slip exposing me to some cbs.
The ice had just left the lake the previous week so I was one of the first people to head down it to Coronet Creek which is 22km. Took me about 5 hours of paddling. I spent two nights there. I also did an 8km hike towards Coronet Glacier. Saw some very interesting displays of the power of an avalanche as the snow was across the river and still probably about 30 feet thick in height over the river. It wiped out about 200 yards of trees on the opposite bank.
Left this site on Sunday and headed half way back up the lake to Fisherman's Bay campsite for a night there. Despite the name, and everyone elses great fishing success, I might have had more luck throwing rocks at the fish!! Granted I'm not a very experienced fisherman and probably had the wrong gear but I was hoping for at least one catch...oh well.
It was a good outing and a great opportunity to test different pieces of gear and now I know what I can count on and what I should leave at home. A priority becomes a pack as my shoulders were just killing me after my 6 hour hike. Again I probably had too much unnecessary stuff for a day hike but wanted to err on the cautious side.
On a sad note, despite travelling entirely around the lake by kayak I did not see one instance of wildlife along the shoreline. The only critters I saw were a deer in each campsite and a porcupine on my hike.
