    Whoopie slings and tarps

I just converted my Expedition to whoopie slings. Question about the tarp.. should I attach tarp to the whoopie sling or should I tie the tarp to the trees?

In my opinion it is much better to tie the tarp to the trees. I have also converted my HH to whoopies. I find that this setup is much better and it keeps the tarp in a tighter pitch.

+1 on taking the tarp directly to the trees. Doing a structural ridge line and shock cord tensioners is a nice add to if you remove the stock shock cording.

Tarp to the trees will probably do you the best. More option in my opinion this way.

I'm a little confused. Are you using toggles on your tarp lines? How are you using them?
The figure 9's are handy to use for tarp lines. I've tried them in the past but have since changed to Dutch Tarp Flyz.

I have found using a pair of 's'-biners prusiked to the CRL works very well. It is easy to center the tarp over your hammock and the tarp RL stays very tight. HYOH.

I use the whoopie slings with a Marlin Spike Hitch, using a 3" aluminum tent pole repair sleeve as a toggle. For the tarp I use the figure 9 to go around the toggle. Would it be better for me to go around the tree instead?

I think its better to secure the tarp to the tree independent of the hammock. The suspension can move as you move in the hammock. For a tarp, it's good to have a nice tight pitch and to attain this its good to be secured to something stationary. Not to say it won't work but depending on the weather you may want to consider it.
