If I get brave enough to tackle a DIY down project, I am inclined to try this stuffing method:

I cut a small enough hole in a down quilt to reach my hand in & grab the down which I put in ziploc baggies til I was ready to make quilt

That sleeping bag is too heavy and pricey to cut up. Check this one out. It's $15 and it's camo

That's a crazy safety warning on that bag. Never seen that before.

The cheap one weights out at 3.56 LB or 57 ozs, not too light either?

We inherited some old high quality down bags. Well, they were high quality, but are old, worn, ripped and duct-taped, pet-pissed, etc. I was thinking of adapting/modifying one of them to be an underquilt. Or, in the alternative, to recover the down somehow and use it in a new DIY underquilt, should I get up the nerve.

Any advice on how to get all the down out of an old bag? Or, perhaps, how to convert the old bag into an underquilt? Though that second option would be over-kill for me, as I'm in the southeast and these bags were built for Colorado Rockies winters.

You can't go 10 steps in CA without seeing a warning of some sort.

It weighs less than the one at REI, and you can cut up three of them for the same price.

I think we can safely say that neither of these sleeping bag options are 'gram wienie approved". But if you want to save some major cash, they are an option.

I think it is time for me to start paying attention to the yard sales around here some more. A down quilt, sleeping bag or the like might just be the thing if one turns up.
