    Limits on JH setup

For those out there with a Claytor Jungle Hammock: What is everyone's opinion about the best bewteen-tree distance for setting up a JH with the stock tarp?

I'm going to be roughing it for a few weeks this summer and I'll be staying put the whole time, so I'll have the luxury of figuring out which are the best two trees to use (as opposed to taking what I can find on the trail). I've got a good idea about the minimum distance between trees; any shorter that the ridgeline of the tarp has always been a problem in the past. But what I'm wondering is what everyone's optimum distance when setting up their JH, so I can find trees close to that distance and go from there. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Sorry, but I just got an JH, I would think that you would need at least 13 feet between the trees or the tarp will not fit. Since you are staying still, why not just fool around with it, and see whats best for you.

I don't have a JH, but I generally pace off about 8 or 9 paces, which seems to fit what my hammock parameters can handle. I'm sure as you use it, you should be able to tell right off whether you're in a reasonable spot or not, or you can pace it off as you get to it.

I'm sure you'll find a way to measure it out. I've seen Pan of JRB stand in the middle between two trees, stretch his hiking poles out in his hands and see if the poles can reach the trees.

Seems everyone has similarly different approaches. Hopefully someone with a JH will chime in here.

I do the ole sobriety test.
Since I wear a size 10 shoe it is right at one foot long.
I might look kinda goofy doing it but who's watching.....the bears?

The best distance for the JH is one that gives you a 30 deg. angle on your suspension. It seems to work out to about 20'. This of course is subject to personal preference. Cheers !!!

once you decide on a minimal distance, the outstretched hiking poles are a quick & sure way to decide if two trees are going to be far enough apart or way to far.
I too will something make and joy in it's making
