    plastic clothes hanger

Someone on the forum seems to always answer this question with "plastic clothes hanger". I had the loop part of a clothes hanger break on me the other day and before throwing the hanger away, I thought, "hey, there's some new toggles!" I haven't tried it yet, but I'm sure it will work. Currently I use aluminum arrow shafts. I usually buy the 22" crossbow arrows and try to get about 6 toggles from them so they wind up a little over 3" which is more than enough for me. I use seatbelt webbing for my tree straps so I need a somewhat longer toggle to deal with the 2" of webbing. It has been said plenty of times before, but again, put your whoopie behind the knot. If you put it on the toggle and you're not using a substantial toggle, you'll find out why.

I use arrow shafts that are a combination of carbon fiber and aluminum 4" toggles. If your a gram wienie then you will love that mine are 4g a pair. Got them for free from the local archery shop.

I had some old, bent arrow shafts from when I was a kid. I figured I hadn't touched them in 20+ years so I cut them into 2.5" sections. They work great.

I use sticks from the ground, which break under load. Thing1 and I just make sure we are hanging on the knot, instead of the stick. Then, when breaking camp, we first break the toggle... falls right out of the marlinspike hitch then.

Knitting needles are a great idea. They can be bought anywhere.

I have some toggles made from an arrow shaft in the PIF post right now. Let me know if you are interested.

What a great idea. I'm inspired to repurpose a couple .303 cases.

I use aluminum tent stakes for my MSH toggle. I carry 6 stakes in case I need to pitch my tarp square but normally only use 2 in a diamond config. If the tarp requires all 6 stakes I can just use trail sticks as toggles. I used a pair of dowels for a few hangs but found them unnecessary. I'm no gram wienie but I didn't like carrying a single use item.
