Ridgeline Height?

The typical and seemingly most oft-used ridgeline length is about 83% of your hammock length. When I first started hanging, I didn't attach my ridgeline directly to gather of the hammock. The order, from the tree went like this:
Whoopie slings to SMC descending rings. A 10" continuous loop chain link hung from the rings and the other end of the chain link attached to the gather of the hammock. I attached my ridgeline to the rings.

This did equate to a ridgeline longer than 83% but I did find a very comfortable lay. The height of the ridgeline did make things like a ridgeline organizer a little tough to reach but other than that, does anyone see anything wrong with this system?

I've since gotten hip and now use Dutch 'Biners instead of the rings.

I appreciate any thoughts and/or opinions.

I really like this way of doing it. I think it keeps the ridgeline up out of the way and makes it easier to use the hammock as a seat.

On some setups, I make the ridgeline 11ft long and let it also serve as the tarp ridgeline.

Never thought of the dual use as a seat but now wheels are turning. Thanks PapaSmurf

I like it too Syb! I often find my ridgeline in the way when I'm gettin out.

Syb, i'll be getting a new hammock on monday and i'm going to use your method to add a SRL. thanks for the info and drawing.

i use your setup on my traveler- ridgeline clipped into dutch biners for
out-of-the-way-ability

I use the same method, except I don't use rings or Dutch biners. My setup's a little different but my SRL comes out about 6in above the gathered ends.

Glad you like it Ham. Funny, I just never thought about my RL getting in the way but after just getting in and out of my hammock, I do find I have more room.

Great! The nice thing here is it allows you to have an adjustable RL which can lengthen or shorten around a ring versus rope on rope. The drawing was a quickie from MS Publisher. I'm no dejoha

I want to do this, but I have a Grand Trunk Skeeter Beater and the net is built into it. I can't run the ridgeline to my descender rings without cutting into the netting. And the, if I decide to flip it over and not use the netting, The ridgeline would be stuck inside the netting side.

Making it detachable would work perfectly, but that netting is in the way....

Advice?
