The typical and seemingly most oft-used ridgeline length is about 83% of your hammock length. When I first started hanging, I didn't attach my ridgeline directly to gather of the hammock. The order, from the tree went like this:
Whoopie slings to SMC descending rings. A 10" continuous loop chain link hung from the rings and the other end of the chain link attached to the gather of the hammock. I attached my ridgeline to the rings.
This did equate to a ridgeline longer than 83% but I did find a very comfortable lay. The height of the ridgeline did make things like a ridgeline organizer a little tough to reach but other than that, does anyone see anything wrong with this system?
I've since gotten hip and now use Dutch 'Biners instead of the rings.
I appreciate any thoughts and/or opinions.
