How do you hang in a Hammock Hanger?

I recently purchased a hammock stand for my backyard. I have both a HH Ultralight backpacker and ENO DN, both with whoopies. I can just make my ENO DN fit in the stand and still be comfortable, but I cannot find a way to hand the HH without my bottom hitting the ground. Has anyone elso out there had this problem, and how did you fix it?

Unfortunately some commercial stands are not quite the right dimensions for what we consider to be proper set up. My stand is comfy for my lounging hammocks but a little short for my Blackbird and Switchback.

I recall there being a thread about adding extenders to a stand, unfortunately this involved getting some pipes bent, so the extensions went up rather than out...
wish I had the link handy, but a search should turn it up, KM

That is a good idea. I wonder how much a muffler shop charges for a mod like that?

hummm - do you think eliminating the WS would help? I'm thinking that the WS attachment means there is at least a foot at each end that can't be tightened and some other attachment method could get the hammock tighter and possibly off the ground.

That would work, but I would have to remove my whoopies that I just installed. That would not be very convinient to have to change my suspension to test hang at home and then change to use on the trail. That would work if I just wanted a hammock to use only in my yard.

Is it possible to make a short loop out of webbing by tying a water-knot and larks-head it to the hammock with the whoopies still attached (but unused)? When you finish your backyard hang, all you would have to do is remove the loop of webbing by undoing the larks head. I've never done it, so I couldn't tell you for sure if it worked, but I think that is the first direction I would go if faced with this dilemma.

You're gonna need a bigger hammock

    Heres a trick to try..
Run your whoopies thru the attachment eye of the stand, over to the middle, where you attach both whoopies together with a carabiner. Adjust for proper elevation. If your whoopies are to short for this, suplement with more line or a tree strap.

Doing this may raise the ends of the hammock enough to clear the stand, and consume the extra "dead" space of line at each end of the hammock. You should be able to draw the hammock ends completely up to the attachment eyes.

I've done this before on my indoor set up (hook eyes in the walls) and it works. It should work with a stand. Some of the stands angles just are not useful for camping style hammocks.

    Give it a try.
