VIDEO AND PIX: My new DIY tarp: The Hinterland Hideaway.

After much procrastination I have finally finished my new tarp the Hinterland Hideaway!! (yea!) I still need to seam seal it but here she is.
I made the corners and all perimeter pull outs 3 layers thick..two on the patch and one being the tarp itself. The panel pulls on the side are 500d cordura cuz I didn't want to make a double layer sil patch for some reason. All the patches were made to be pretty (to my eye) and functional. Future tarps will not be so fancy its too much work. Its probably a little over built, but its a lot of area to catch wind with and I'll sleep better knowing its pretty beefy.
Here's a few pix showing the concept in Sketchup, some of the details of corner patches etc, and the finished product. This project would not have been possible w/o Sketchup. Mocked up a lot of things on there before cutting fabric. I also haven't weighed it yet, so no info on that currently. Thanks for looking.

Looks great. With my luck, the prevailing wind would shift 180 degrees during the night and the tarp would turn into a sail.

    Size large x huge.

    Cheers

Great work on the tarp. What is the length and width of it?

Thanks Brian. Thats the kind of luck I have too. But I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

Thanks, it ended up approx 10.5' wide x 11' long. I had planned on 10x11 but the fabric was wider so thats what I went with.

Thanx Mr. Shug. I can hardly wait for a proper storm to try it out.

Thanks Gmcttr. The next one will definitely be a little more "plain jane" but I like the look of the finger patches in the corners.

That tarp looks like a perfect place to hang out(pun intended) during torrential downpours.
    Nice work Red!

Elegant corners! That tarp makes me want to get a canoe and cruise those northern lakes. I wonder if you could rig it as a sail.
