Whoopies shouldn't slip if you milk them after adjustment unless the adjustable bury is not long enough.

The recent advent of the Dutch Hook has jumped to the front of the line as far as line fastening advances, IMO. I think you could mock up an acceptable substitute with a carabiner, but since these cost $2.50 each, why would one even bother?

The Dutch hook is for tarp line. Amsteel won't fit in it. Please don't hang on them.

    2. Funny how metal parts fail unexpectedly. Even Dutch's robust-appearing biners are now listed as suitable for ridge-line, not suspensions.

    3. If trees are to be protected I wouldn't think of multiple steel-wire-replacements -- dyneema -- as the way to build tree huggers. I'd think of lengths of ultra-high-strength commercial polyester tape used to pull wire through conduit. (Sorry, brand-name is not coming up.)

    Or, of grosgrain.

Anyone up for destructive strength tests of grosgrain?
That is because there are 2 types of biners. You are thinking of the Ridgeline biner that is meant to disconnect you ridgeline.

The Dutch Biner is meant for suspensions and has held a 425 pound hanger

The problem that I had with the slap straps, more than stretching, was the lack of being able to adjust them. That six inches or spacing can make it hard to hang the way you want it to. If you do find a way to make it work put many loops close together.

That was true with a static type of suspension line. But with the advent and acceptance of whoopie slings which are adjustable themselves you should be able to do some fine adjusting to compensate for the static hang points.

You need to print that on the sides of the hook else lawyers will be coming after you

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that only gives you a width barely larger than 5/16" rope. That doesn't seem like it would give adequate protection to the tree as 1" wide webbing does.

Ramblin I think you misunderstood me. I switched to woopies for the adjustablity. Slap straps are limiting and i think his idea with slaps made out of amsteel would do the same.

I got that... I've used the equivalent of slap straps and I agree they are extremely limiting with a static suspension. But if I wasn't happy with my ring buckle system I might consider them again because the setup is quick and easy and with the adjustable whoopie slings it seems they might be easier to deal with. Just a thought but not one I will be pursuing as I like the flexibility the ring buckle/webbing system gives me and I am not such a gram weenie that I care about the weight.
