That's were my brother and I will be hanging this weekend. It is not easy to moderate though, at east not the trails I've been on...but I like the trails hard and the hang sweet.

My Avatar was taken in '06 in Shinning Rock Wilderness. It's one of my favorite areas.

Kings Mountain is not far from Charlotte and has a 20 mile loop.
I hiked in 7 miles, camped and came back out. It was an easier hike than you'll find in the mountains.

We would like to stay away from car and rv camp areas, yet not be isolated and away from all hikers.

Any and all suggestions are welcome.
Is the ellicot rock you're talking about near where the border comes together between NC, SC and GA??

You're also located very near Uwharrie. There is a figure 8 loop trail there that you could do that's about 20 miles. Or shorten and do how ever many miles you want.

From Chester, SC, you have great access to Pisgah NF, the Smokies NP, Nantahala NF, as well as the UWharries NF and all that's in-between including Stone Mtn SP and South Mtn SP.

For this weekend, I would recommend Shining Rock. It's high and cool, with good trails and lots of places to hang. For a good three day hike, start at the south end parking lot off the Blue Ridge Parkway, and hike to the top of Cold Mtn and back via the Narrows. That's one of my all time favorite hikes!
